Open retreats

Retreats offer an opportunity to remove ourselves from the routine of daily life and spend quality time deepening our relationship with yoga - and giving time and space for ourselves. The form of the retreat will vary depending on the venue and the nature of the event, but in general we try to provide a spacious feel to our retreats so that our participants leave inspired, nourished and more relaxed.

Yoga of the Breath

Since ancient times, breathing has been seen by practitioners of yoga as a profound tool for transformation. Breathing affects us at physical, psychological, emotional and spiritual levels.

Different approaches to yoga emphasise different ways of breathing; during this retreat we will explore many ways of working with the breath and how they can best be utilised.

  • How do the inhalation, exhalation and pauses differ?
  • What are their characteristics?
  • How does breath relate to prana?
  • What does it mean to refine the breath?
  • How are movement and breath related?
  • What is the relationship between mind and breath?

There will be plenty of time for practice as well as discussion and theory.

Cost: £215 residential, £145 non-residential

Essential Yoga Sutras with Ranju Roy and Dave Charlton

A 5 day non-residential Sadhana Mala retreat in Taunton.

Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras is the key text for the study of yoga. Composed nearly two thousand years ago, it remains a shining treasure trove for anyone wishing to explore the meaning and philosophy of yoga. Originally composed in Sanskrit, the sutras are not readily accessible, and although there are many translations, their content differs significantly.

In this retreat we will explore how to relate to the text, examine the myths of Patanjali and the historical context and present a skeleton overview of major themes of the text, inspired by the teachings of TKV Desikachar and his students. We will also chant some of the sutras; there will also be plenty of time for discussion and asana and pranayama practice.

This retreat will be ideal for those new to the subject, student teachers and also those who wish to revise and deepen their relationship with the philosophy of the Yoga Sutras.

Accommodation: BnB or other accommodation is easily available locally and a list will be provided on request.
